MVA coal truck overturned
Fri. May 7th 2010

County Incident # 7578 and Company incident 128 was at 05:20 on 05/07/2010.  The company was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.  Asst. 42 was first  on scene and found a t- bone style collision involving a mini van and a coal truck with the coal truck overturned on its side.  Units from 42, 39, 43 and Team 800 responded.  39 units shut RT 30 eastbound off at Darlington Road, while Rescue 43 provided traffic control on RT 30 westbound and helped with containment of the diesel fuel from the truck.  Team 800 responded for the offloading of excess fuel inside the tank and containment of spilled fuel on the roadway.  42 units provided traffic control atop of Idlewild Hill and Route 30, also closed Idlewild Hill at Darlington road to prevent bystanders at the scene.  42 personnel also helped with preparing and loading the driver of the van into the ambulance. Ligonier Valley Ambulance transported both drivers, the driver of the van was transported by helicopter to Pittsburgh from a LZ at the Airport, while the truck driver was transported to Latrobe Hospital.  Penn DOT cleared both eastbound lanes and the turning lane of the westbound lane of all coal with a front loader and a street sweeper.  All units were back in service around 09:25 with a total of 9 members responded to the incident.
